Life at Faculty
CAMPUS
In Türkiye, the only building that rightly comes to mind when one thinks of a university is the main entrance of the proud Istanbul University, better known as Beyazıt Gate, in the centre of Beyazıt Square, built on one of the seven hills of the city, overlooking both the Marmara Sea and the Golden Horn, and cradling universities and university students for many years. On either side of the gate are two symmetrical buildings, which were planned as the entrance's guard station and served this purpose for a period. Today, one of them serves as the “Istanbul University Institute of Atatürk's Principles and Revolutions” and the other as the “Professors' House”, one of the social facilities of the University. When you enter the campus through the huge gate, you are greeted by a view that is rarely seen in Istanbul. From the Beyazıt Gate to the Central Building, there is a road covered by old trees, and at the end of the road is the Central Building in all its splendour and the statue of Atatürk, which was built in 1955 as an expression of the feelings of gratitude and gratitude of the Turkish youth to their ancestor. For many Istanbul University students, this road is more than an ordinary road; it is a short but profound summary of the University, where they lived the most enjoyable, meaningful and unforgettable years of their lives. Because many of them said hello to those pleasant years, to the winters when the garden was painted white, to the autumns when the acacias and plane leaves fell to the ground, to the springs when life started again, to the hot summers, to lifelong friendships, to immortal loves; for the first time on this road.
Istanbul University Faculty of Law, with all its administrative and academic units, is located in the Beyazıt Central Campus of the university. The administrative and academic units of the Faculty carry out their activities in the three-store building known today as the Central Building, which was built and used as the Ministry of War during the last period of the Ottoman Empire, and in the two blocks completed in the 1950s, which were added to this building in the form of two branches of a letter "U". The Dean's Office of the Faculty is currently located on the second floor of the central building. The first of these two blocks is known as the lecture theatres block, where undergraduate education is carried out and there are a total of eight lecture theatres, all of which are named after retired lecturers of our Faculty. In addition, the student affairs office, the canteen where students can spend their free time, and the rooms allocated to student clubs to the extent possible are also located in this block. Opposite the lecture theatres block, there is the second block, which we call the institutes block, where the rooms of faculty members and assistants and the research and application centres affiliated to the faculty are located. On the second floor of the building, where the European Law and Comparative Law Research and Application Centres are located on the first floor, there are Criminal Law and Criminology, Ord. Prof. Dr. Sıddık Sami Onar Administrative Law, International Law and International Relations Centres.
Between the two blocks is a garden with a pool where a long part of the university years will be spent. On the back façade, to the right and left of the central building, this area, where classrooms and institutes are located, is the address of meetings, discussions, lying on the grass in the spring months, declarations of love, crying, sharing, commiserations, break-ups, lessons avoided during the year, the last rush before the exam at the end of the year, songs and the news of graduation. It is also the most enjoyable way to realise that you are in Istanbul. Because the garden has a view of Süleymaniye, Galata and Taksim behind it, the Golden Horn in front of all of them, and the Bosphorus on the right, and the spring spent watching all this is usually the harbinger of the exhausting rush of the exam period. In front of the institutes block is the faculty library. From the entrance of the library, the project of which was drawn by a competition, to the reading room, it is a monument of architectural elegance, and with the books it contains, it is, in modest terms, the most respectable law library in Türkiye. At the right end corner of the central campus is the Turan Emeksiz dining hall, which serves our faculty and other faculties in the central campus, and to the right of the Central Building is a basketball court for students.

ISTANBUL UNIVERSITY LAW FACULTY ALUMNI AND MEMBERS FOUNDATION
ISTANBUL LAW FOUNDATION IS STRONGER WITH YOU
The establishment of the Istanbul Law Foundation is based on a process initiated by our previous dean Prof. Dr. Abuzer Kendigelen. The purpose of the establishment of the Foundation is to establish a strong bond with our retired faculty members, who are of particular value to us, and secondly with our alumni who have spent many years under this roof. Indeed, the sense of "loyalty" makes it necessary and even obligatory both to maintain the relationship of our Faculty with its retired members and to maintain the ties of our graduates with their Faculties in some way. Although we have seen examples of this both in our country and in the world, unfortunately, until the establishment of the Foundation, we have not been able to establish or at least maintain the aforementioned bond for our Faculty. It should not be forgotten that one of the factors that will carry a Faculty forward is undoubtedly the strength and support of its alumni and members. The main purpose of the foundation is to prepare the infrastructure for the establishment of an institutional bond with its alumni and members. On the other hand, as a faculty, we have always been proud of our library. Indeed, the fact that our library contains theses and books that could not be found even in the libraries of many foreign countries until the 1980s justifies this pride. However, after the 1980s, there has been a serious decline in the number of printed works added to our library, as well as difficulties in subscribing to some of the national and international databases, which are now much easier to access, due to economic reasons. The second aim of the foundation is to provide the Law Faculty Library with the title of a complete "law research library" in the international arena. It should also be noted that the Istanbul Law Foundation terminated its ties with its founders on the day it was established, and there was no need for a separate Board of Trustees for this foundation. Because all graduates and members of Istanbul University Faculty of Law have been accepted as natural members of this foundation. The management of the Foundation was entrusted to three professors appointed by the Dean of the Faculty, thus establishing the necessary institutional link between the Faculty and the Foundation. We hope that you will support the Istanbul Law Foundation, where the only criterion is to be a graduate and/or a member...
